Based on the true story of Britain’s Crippen murder case in 1910. American-born Hawley Harvey Crippen (Donald Pleasance), a mild-mannered, middle-aged doctor, was convicted and hanged in 1910 for poisoning his wife Belle (Coral Browne), dismembering her body and burying the remains in the coal cellar of their home before fleeing England with his mistress, Ethel Le Neve (Samantha Eggar), only to be arrested aboard a ship on route to North America when the authorities alert the ship’s captain by radio.
